the science of growing feet

why fit matters.

kids' feet are still forming, and the right fit gives them room to grow the way they're meant to. here's what the research and the experts we work with have to say.

01

fit is three things

length, width, and depth all matter. a shoe that's the right length can still be too shallow or too narrow for a growing foot.

02

little feet hide a bad fit

before about age eight, children's feet have little bone structure, so kids often can't feel when a shoe is too small. the fix is a simple habit: check the fit every three months.

03

the shoe isn't neutral

research shows footwear measurably changes how children walk and run. lighter, more flexible shoes interfere least, giving little feet space to move naturally.

Fit is a combination of length, width and depth. It is important to make sure all 3 are considered with growing feet.

find their fit

three ways to find their size.

pick whichever is easiest. all three get you to the right worldie size.

scan with SizeWise™

SizeWise uses your phone camera to scan both feet and recommend the right size with AI, calibrated to worldie's shoes. no app to download and nothing to wait for. the quickest, most precise way to measure from home.

the sizing chart

print our chart at home, have them stand on it, and read the size in about two minutes. a free, no-wait option if you'd rather not scan.

the sizing magnet

sizing on the fridge

the sizing magnet

a reusable measuring tool that sticks to your fridge. line their heel up at the mark and the longest toe points to their worldie size. for the most accurate read, measure with their heel against a wall while wearing typical socks.

fit & sizing, answered.

the questions parents ask us most about sizing active, growing kids.

how do i measure my child's feet at home?

three ways, fastest to most hands-on: scan both feet with SizeWise, print our sizing chart, or use the worldie magnet. whichever you pick, measure both feet (they're often slightly different), keep the heel flush against a wall, and have them wear the kind of socks they'd wear with the shoe.

how often should i check the fit?

about every three months. young feet grow fast and in spurts, and most kids can't feel when a shoe has quietly gotten too small, so it's worth a standing reminder rather than waiting for a complaint. diana, the pediatric podiatrist who advises us, recommends a recurring three-month calendar nudge.

what should a good fit actually feel like?

fit is three things, not one: length, width, and depth. aim for about a thumb's width of room past the longest toe, enough width that the toes can spread, and enough depth that the top of the foot isn't pressed. a shoe can be the right length and still be too shallow or too narrow.

what if my child is between sizes, or one foot is bigger?

size to the bigger foot, and when you're between sizes, go up. a little growing room is good for active kids; cramped toes aren't. just not so roomy that the heel slips during play.

can one shoe really cover different sports?

that's the whole idea. worldie is built for the surfaces and activities kids rotate through day to day, running, court, turf, the playground, and everyday wear, so you're not buying a separate pair for each. it's made for busy feet that need durability and adaptability.

when does my child need the next size?

kids almost always outgrow shoes before they wear them out, so it comes down to fit, not damage. if a three-month check shows the longest toe is near the end, or the width or depth feels tight, it's time to size up.

why does fit matter so much at this age?

before about age eight, kids' feet are mostly soft tissue with little bone structure, so they need room to develop without being compressed, and they can't reliably tell you when something's too tight. research also shows footwear measurably changes how kids move, which is why we keep worldie light and flexible and obsess over fit.
